30mm socket 12pt ok or must be 6 pt

All I can find so far is 30mm 12 pt sockets. HD and Lowes have 12pt with liftime warranty but the wall looks awfully thin and don't know it it will work for the rear axel nut. Need advice.

Going to order the drum/bearing assembly from a vendor found online so I don't need to go somewhere for a press. Also will get the axel seal than to suggestion from SuperFlea and his fantastic How to for the rear wheel bearings.

2003 ZX5 66k miles and loud rumbling in rear getting worse.
