wouldn't recommend the stock studs for any type of racing period. once you get the arp studs and whichever open end nuts you prefer, replace a lugnut with a new one, hand tight is fine, you'll see what i mean about thread engagement. and its worse with some aftermarket wheels that have a thick hub flange.
studs are actually not hard to replace , i did all of mine on the svt with just the wheels off. make sure you have a stack of washers or an oversize nut, then use an old lug nut to pull the stud in when you tighten it.
i'd also recommend checking the tightness several times, about every 25-50 miles, to make sure they fully seat. and torque them, don't just crank them down
