The Kansas City BMW club does a nice job. Their next event is at Heartland Park in August. I ran my SVO there as a student a few years ago. Very organized and friendly.
The Great Lakes Region of SVTOA is having an event at Putnam Park in June and an event at Gingerman in July. Both are good tracks for learning with plenty of technical areas and lots of run off room.
The closest track and nearest date is the Iowa BMW Club event at Mid America. Never ran with them so I can't vouch for their curriculum. Mid America is a nice course, but very flat.
The only things needed to start attending events like these are a desire to learn, a helmet, and a maintained car. Some groups even have rental helmets which takes some of the sting out of the first event cost.
A maintained car means tire tread depth above the minimum, decent thickness on the brake pads, fresh brake fluid, properly torqued lug nuts and a securly mounted battery. Nothing special needs to be done. A bone stock, low horsepower car is best to learn with and a SVT Focus fits the bill nicely.
The best part of these events though are the people you will meet.
